Golden leaves is a charitable organisation with the aims of helping and organising events and outings for the over 55s around Hull and the East Riding.

The charity’s aims are: to provide medical aid and equipment (not normally provided by the statutory authorities); and to provide recreation and leisure-time activities for people who are socially isolated.

It was the original idea of Rose Sutcliffe and her close friend, the late Lynne Greening.  When Rose’s Mum had been ill, Rose had made a promise to her to do as much as she could to help and support the elderly.

Rose and Lynne started to raise funds for various projects, and eventually worked alongside Age Concern (Hull) to raise fund for them.  In 1997 Golden Leaves became a charity in its own right, and as a parting gift gave Age Concern (Hull) £5,000 towards the gym in their planned new centre.

Golden Leaves has continued over the years with the support of a small committee, and a band of loyal volunteers.  All money raised goes to the people Rose wants to support.  There is no costly premises, office or staff to support.

One of the main reasons for the success of the charity is that all of the fundraising events are first and foremost lots of fun. Over the years the events have involved jumping out of planes, getting out of a helicopter crash simulator, bungee jumping, walking over the Humber Bridge (dressed as Elvis), Bed Push (complete with “nurses and patients”), various fancy dress events, sumo wrestling, and the list goes on.

Golden Leaves has been running since 1996 and aims to bring happiness to the lives of elderly people. The charity set up clubs, day trips and events for people who were alone or had nowhere to go. Proceeds raised by the group are devoted to providing lifeline telephones, special mattresses, wheelchairs and equipment for elderly people.
